WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING
Preparing for a guided hike in Rocky Mountain National Park starts with having the right gear—especially when you're traveling with family and friends. At Estes Park Tour Guides, we keep things simple and affordable so everyone can enjoy the mountains with confidence.
These recommendations come from years of guiding guests of all ages in RMNP, and they’re designed to work for every season, every trail, and every skill level.
Here’s what we suggest bringing on all guided tours(winter and summer):
- Hiking boots or supportive trail shoes
(No open-toe sandals. Good traction is essential for uneven terrain.) - Long-sleeve lightweight tops
Offers sun protection and warmth during early morning or sunset sessions. - Lightweight hiking pants
(Avoid jeans if possible; they get heavy and restrict movement.) - Fleece jacket or insulated vest
Mornings and evenings cool down quickly at altitude. - Beanie / warm hat (optional)
- Lightweight winter gloves (optional)
Great for sunrise shoots when handling cold camera gear. - Waterproof rain jacket or poncho
- Any personal medications you may need
